The Pun Also Rises, John Pollack – 9781592406234

in: Joke

A former word pun champion’s funny, erudite, and provocative exploration of puns, the people who make them, and this derided wordplay’s remarkable impact on history. The pun is commonly dismissed as the lowest form of wit, and punsters are often unpopular for their obsessive wordplay. But such attitudes are relatively recent developments. In The Pun Also Rises, John Pollack-a former World Pun Champion and presidential speechwriter for Bill Clinton-explains why such wordplay is significant: It both revolutionized language and played a pivotal role in making the modern world possible. Skillfully weaving together stories and evidence from history, brain science, pop culture, literature, anthropology, and humor, The Pun Also Rises is an authoritative yet playful exploration of a practice that is common, in one form or another, to virtually every language on earth. At once entertaining and educational, this engaging book answers fundamental questions: Just what is a pun, and why do people make them? How did punning impact the development of human language, and how did that drive creativity and progress? And why, after centuries of decline, does the pun still matter? View more: bit.ly

My Blog kentanakalovesyou.blogspot.com Visit Remi-chan. www.youtube.com Pun #1. Shooga (ショウガ) in Japanese means ginger. Shoo ga nai. (しょうがない)is a common phrase which means “it can’t be helped”/ “too bad”. But the words “Shooga nai” also mean…there is no ginger… Remi responds to the puns by saying “samui” which means “cold”. The joke is so bad it is like a cold wind blowing through. “SAmui” is a common way to say something is not funny or a bad joke. Later she says “sara ni samui” which means that it is even more samui. That’s why remi is snuggled in a blanket:) Ken- Do you have juice with shouga (ginger) in it. Clerk- no Ken- jaa shou ga nai(It can’t be helped/there is no ginger). In this case Ken asks if they have juice with shooga (ginger) in it. The woman says “no”. Ken responds

LYRICS: Shaquille O’Neal with a cold is a tall black cough-y (coffee), And so is Michael Jackson, ‘cept with cream in his naugh-tea I’m normalized, formalized, I keep ‘em organized But when a girl fucked a bird I left her she was ostracized Never got circumcised, wouldn’t let them hack it, Now whenever I masturbate I roll down my Jack-it Jacket Challenge me to a duel, my Epee (Epi) sends you careening, And I’ll “Foil” your allergies too, DUAL (DUEL) MEANING. Bro and dude are names for n00bs But you can call me bra(h) cause I like to hold your boobs I got the Magic Bullet to do my ice crushing, But in theory, it just made a JFK brain slushie. Chorus: Wordplay, You’d think that you were at a show about the life of Noah Webster. Wordplay, Just like Steven Hawking’s prostitute, he’s gonna blow your mind I DE-bate, that’s when the girls take my bait, just ask her, But I gotta RE-bate, or else I’ll just be the master(bate/bait). Got a flat tire in Notre Dame, it made my car a Quasi-moto, Then I bought a “Black Dog” from “Led Zeppelin” named “Toto” Saw a hooker at a gas station, tried to get a few pumps with my purchase, But her hand was broken, guess that makes her out-of-service I saw two eggs getting dirty and bumpy, If they want it in the butt, is it humpty-in-the-dumpty? I’m a tap-dancing testicular surgeon, I do my work in my ballroom A racial minority rapper, call me Dr. Snoop Livingstone, I presume Met a manicurist, she was good with her hands, But first-things-first, I

Big Pun – Rest in Peace

in: Joke

He was a Puerto Rican rapper who grew up and began his career in The Bronx, New York during the late 1990s. Growing up, he did not have a father figure and was exposed to difficult situations, including witnessing his mother abuse drugs. Pun soon grew angry, self-destructive, and dropped out of school.

During the 1980′s, Big Pun formed a group called “Full a Clips Crew” with the rappers, Triple Seis, Prospect, and Cuban Link. Later, Pun met the rapper, Fat Joe and appeared on his album, “Jealous One’s Envy” in 1995, as well as “Fire Water”, “Watch Out”, and “The Beatnuts” in 1997. He was later signed as a solo artist to Loud Records and hired the producer, Knobody and his partner Sean C. to remix one of his songs, “I’m Not a Player”, featuring R&B artist, Joe. The song quickly became Big Pun’s first major mainstream hit. He would later create several Mixtapes and in 1998, the full-length debut “Capital Punishment” became the first album by a solo Latin rapper to go platinum.

Soon after, Big Pun became a member of the group, “Terror Squad” founded by Fat Joe. His second album, “Yeeeah Baby”, reached #3 on the Billboard charts earning Gold Record status, followed by “Endangered Species” in April 2001 which made it to the top 10 of the Billboards, making #7. Big Pun created several Mixtapes that have been found after his death. His mixtapes include the mixtape, “Language is fatal”, “NY Giants”, “My world” and the “Tribute” Mixtape which are the most popular of his mixtapes.

Big Pun struggled with his weight for the majority of his life, as he was morbidly obese. Attempting to take care of this disease, he enrolled in a weight-loss program in North Carolina, where he lost 80 pounds. Eventually, he quit the program, returned to New York City, and gained the weight back.

While spending time with his family at a hotel in White Plains, New York, Pun died of a heart attack and respiratory failure on February 7, 2000, at the young age of 28.

On September 15, 2009, a tribute documentary titled, “Big Pun: The Legacy” was released. The film was directed by Vlad Yudin and includes performances and scene interviews with Big Pun, other artists, actors, and close friends. His mixtapes continue to drop with regularity.
